I don’t like it when authors use explicit language or words to describe a sexual scene. I prefer the lighter terms. 

Just use appropriate terminology for the tone of the piece. I thought this was stating the obvious but I still see so many sex scenes with a complete stylistic disconnect between terms for genitalia etc. and the rest of the text.

If it’s a romantic scene, don’t use harsh words. If it’s rough sex, don’t use soft euphemisms. Make sure the tone reflects the POV of the character. How explicit or ‘hard’ a word/vulgarity sounds isn’t the problem; it’s how, where, and when it’s used.

^ I’d say this is just general good advice for maintaining the tone of a piece.
